The last six months has really put Poubelle International on the map. So far, 2010 has seen them release their explosive debut EP Avec La Boom!, tour the Philippines, write a handful of new tracks, release a madcap video, perform on National TV, and rock the shop window of H&M, all of which has led some to mention them in the same sentence as The Strokes (in a good way, that is). It’s not just the charisma of this multinational three-piece that’s been attracting the comparisons either – it’s more the groove-laden catchiness embedded in their sarcastic rock – a dance/disco element that’s increasingly ‘come to the floor’ since the introduction of bassist Dean Cameron ushered in Poubelle Mk II late last year.
But, just as with all good bands, evolution is on Poubelle’s cards again, with an imminent lineup change pushing the band into a new era. It’s hardly the end of the PI – and plans of a new album is the current word on the street – but the next time you see them live, there’ll probably have morphed into something just a little different.
So grab your chance to see them in their current incarnation. One of our ‘it’ bands of the moment, Unixx, will join them fresh off their pan-China 7 Deadly Sins tour, and the Supersonic boys will be on the decks. It’ll definitely be Avec La Boom – whatever that means.
